DALE STOTT, MD. Dr. Stott is double board certified in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He is originally from Tucson, Arizona where he obtained both his undergraduate degree in nutritional science and his medical degree from the University of Arizona. During medical school he worked part time as a high school football coach where he was first introduced to the field of pain medicine by the team physician, a physical medicine specialist. Following medical school he did an internship in family practice at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. He then completed a three year Anesthesiology residency in Sacramento, at the University of California, Davis Medical Center where he also received formal training in pain management under the tutelage of Dr. Eric Grigsby. In his third year he served as chief resident.
Following residency Dr. Stott obtained board certification in Anesthesiology and worked briefly as a clinical instructor at U.C. Davis before taking a job at Doctor’s Medical Center (DMC) in Modesto, California. During his seven year stay in Modesto he developed an acute pain service at DMC and served as the Director of Pain Medicine as well as Chief of Anesthesia. Dr. Stott currently serves on the clinical faculty at the University of Utah Medical School.
In 1998, Dr. Stott decided to practice exclusively in the field of pain medicine and subsequently relocated to St. George, Utah where with the help of his wife Deborah, a critical care registered nurse, he founded Zion Pain Management. He obtained board certification from the American Board of Pain Medicine in 1999.
In his spare time, Dr. Stott enjoys spending time with his wife and four children as well as pursuing his many hobbies, which include horseback riding, power lifting, and coaching high school football. Dr. Stott recently became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and serves as the offensive line and strength coach at Pine View High School.
DEREK FRIEDEN, MD. Dr Frieden is double board certified in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He was born and raised in Australia. He moved to the U.S. in 1991 to complete his pre-medical education at Louisiana State University and Donnelly College in Kansas City. He earned his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Anesthesiology at St. Louis University where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Frieden then pursued specialized training in Pain Management at the Harvard University School of Medicine-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and served as Chief Fellow. After completing his fellowship Dr. Frieden practiced pain management in Charlotte, North Carolina before deciding to join Dr. Stott and Zion Pain Management Center in St. George. Dr. Frieden is a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Frieden also serves on the clinical faculty at the University of Utah Medical School.
Dr. Frieden is married to Karen, who is also a physician and specializes in internal medicine, and they have three children ages 11, 7, and 3. The Friedens enjoy boating, hiking, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, running and tennis in their off time.
BROOKANNE MICKELSON, MSN-RN, FNP-C Brookanne has been with Zion Pain Management since April 2002. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Associate Member of the American Society of Intervention Pain Physicians, and an active member in the American Society of Pain Management Nursing. Prior to moving to St. George, she worked in family practice serving the underserved population of Ogden. She then took an opportunity to organize and manage the Acute Pain Service at McKay-Dee Hospital. During this time, she also developed multiple education modules for hospital staff (nursing and physicians) to improve acute and chronic pain management for patients while hospitalized. She participated actively in the Palliative Care Committee, and chaired the Pain QA and I committee that prepared the hospital to meet the newest JCAHO standards in pain management.
Since she was given the wonderful opportunity to move to St. George and work with Dr. Stott and the Zion Pain Management staff, she has continued her education in chronic pain management and looks forward to the opportunity to continue to serve the St. George community.
Joanne Abegglen, FNP-C
DAVID STOTT, Administrator and Corporate Counsel. Mr. Stott is a native of St. George but grew up in Tucson, Arizona. His education includes a a law degree and three years of post-graduate study in English and Political Science. He is a member of the Utah State Bar Association and the Southern Utah Bar Association. He began his legal career in private law practice in Salt Lake City, Utah, served as an administrative law judge for the State of Utah, and subsequently worked for a number of years as legal counsel to the Utah Public Service Commission. Before coming to Zion Pain Management Center, Mr. Stott worked as a group administrator and consultant for several large medical groups in California. Since moving to St. George, he has served as an assistant football coach at Pine View High School and as President of the Panther Club, a charitable fundraising organization for athletic and scholarship programs at Pine View High School.
