Acupuncture
is the practice of inserting very fine needles into
the skin to stimulate specific anatomic points in
the body for therapeutic purposes. Heat pressure,
friction, suction, or impulses of electrical energy
may also be used.
A
number of acupuncture needles may be inserted. The
needles are so fine that there is very little discomfort
during the insertion.
A
tingle or a heavy sensation is produced when the needle
is inserted correctly. the needles are sometimes stimulated
manually by heat or by electrical stimulation in an
attempt to increase circulation.
After
any stimulation is applied, the needles are removed
and the procedure is finished.
The
acupoints are now stimulated to balance the movement
of energy in the body to restore health.
